EV Charging at Your Workplace: AC or DC?

October 20264 min read

As EV adoption grows, workplaces, residences, hotels and car parks are turning to charger installations. The right device choice depends on the use case and the existing electrical infrastructure.

AC charging (up to 22 kW)

Ideal where the vehicle is parked for long periods: office car parks, residences, hotels. It needs lower-cost infrastructure and the car charges in a few hours. In most scenarios 22 kW AC is sufficient.

DC fast charging (e.g. 180 kW)

Suited to roadside, mall and commercial points where the vehicle must charge quickly (e.g. 0–80% in about 20 minutes). It requires stronger electrical infrastructure and panel capacity.

Infrastructure is critical

Whatever the device power, the determining factor is the available electrical capacity. The panel, cable cross-section, protection equipment and supply line must be sized correctly. VE GRUP serves AC and DC charging systems from infrastructure preparation to commissioning.
