Why Is Fire Pump Periodic Maintenance Essential?

October 20265 min read

Fire pump systems are among the most critical components of a facility's life-safety infrastructure. They rarely run under normal conditions; yet in a real fire they must operate at full capacity from the first seconds. Regular testing and maintenance is therefore a necessity, not an option.

System components

  • Electric main fire pump
  • Diesel fire pump (backup/alternative)
  • Jockey pump (small pump maintaining line pressure)
  • Control panels and automation
  • Valves, check valves and test-line equipment

What does periodic maintenance cover?

Regular maintenance includes operation and function tests of the pump group; the control panel, battery, fuel system (on diesel pumps) and automation are checked. It is verified that the jockey pump correctly holds line pressure and that the main pumps start at the right pressure.

The risk of neglect

A diesel pump with a dead battery, a mis-set pressure switch or a stuck valve can mean the system does not run at all during a fire. That is an unacceptable risk for both life safety and legal liability.

VE GRUP provides fire pump periodic maintenance, testing and commissioning in factories, warehouses, hotels, business centers and commercial facilities.
